Big Sky – Endless Prairie
By Elton J Mellum
If you go east from the
Beneath the big, big sky
You will certainly be able to see
All the way to where you’ll die
The road you’re on goes on forever
Right to the end of the blue
And as soon as you get there
You’ll discover it’s fooled you
For as far as you can still see
It still goes on and on and on
And somewhere beyond eternity
It disappears and is gone
You can die out there unless you know
That there is more and less then it seems
For it can dry out your soul
And steal away your dreams
The endless symphony of wind
And crickets in the night
Then mosquitoes and chiggers
And no relief in sight
The whirlwinds are only symbols
Of bigger things to fight
When the twisters come down
And tear away the night
And hail can tear up the soil
And with it tear down you life
And there goes a year of toil
And comes another year of strife
