The Hunched Up Cowboy & The Wyoming Wind
By Elton Mellum
I was sitting in Douglas at the bar
When an old cowboy walked
in
You could tell almost right away
You didn't want to go where he'd been
His battered hat was all tied down
By a long frayed leather
cord
And the bartender brought him a beer
Before he could say a word
I noticed that his back was hunched up
Like he'd been rear
ended by something fast
And wondered if he'd been a bull rider
But I wasn't inclined to ask
Soon the beer and shots he'd downed
Got him
started talking to me
And he said when he'd come here in "60"
He'd stood straight as a tree
Now look at me as I stand today
And
by god for a bottle of Jack
I'll tell you what happens in a Wyoming Wind
That causes a hunch in your back
So I bought him a bottle and
another beer
And waited for him to begin
For he had me hooked on his story
I was suddenly curious as sin
