Symphony of Wind

By Elton J Mellum

There is an arena

With perfect acoustics

Right in the middle of the woods

Surrounded by an orchestra

Of wind and leaves

So very wonderful

Quiet now, here comes the wind

And the willows begin on key

Then the maples trumpet in

And the harmony of sound

Is punctuated by the beat

Of branches somewhere drumming

And then the wind begins to sing

The Cottonwood leaves

Are flashing their silver sides

Like so many symbols

Keeping the beat with the music

And the Birches come in on cue

While the tall grass keeps harmony

Next comes the choreography

Tall slim cotton tails

Doing their dance on the wind

And clouds are blowing across the sun

Adding a light show to it all

While the hawk performs a ballet

Across the open sky
