A Family Affair
As featured in some of our other stories, Cameron and Garon Stewart and Jodi Neverve are father, son and
daughter. With Cameron being 75 and Garon and Jodi in their mid 40s, they started hunting together nearly 30 years ago. Cameron introduced
hunting to them with small game, such as rabbits, dove and quail. He was very conscientious about safety and along with exposing them
to his own experiences and knowledge, also had them take hunter safety courses. Once they became of age, they put in for buddy permits
and started hunting deer. Living in Nebraska offered them exciting hunting challenges and year after year they had successful hunts. Over the years Garon has broadened his hunting area, as well as his game targets. He has traveled to California for wild boar andFlorida for axis deer. Jodi, who lived in Europe for over 10 years and then relocated to Wyoming in 2004, has in the past three years
gotten back into big game hunting. She got her first bull elk in Wyoming during the fall 2007 season while hunting with Cameron,
who also got his first elk (Garon was also along but unfortunately did not draw a tag for that season). For the past three years,
the three have hunted their deer in Nebraska, and their antelope and elk in Wyoming. The year 2008 holds a busy fall schedule
and another member of the family will also hunt with them for the first time. Dirk, Jodi’s husband, will be back from Europe and will
put in for his deer, antelope and elk tags. Garon is really hoping to draw his elk permit this year so he can join Jodi and Cameron’s
successful elk stories. Although they have each developed their own hunting style, it all started with the father’s teachings
many years ago. This is one family that with each hunt they create another cherished memory.
