My brother, Garon, is one of the calmest, composed hunters I know, and in addition,
very modest. Therefore, you as readers, are getting a third-person version of his very successful trophy hunt. It is rare that Garon
takes a buck on opening day, let alone within the first hour of shooting. But on November 10, 2007, on opening day in westernNebraska, Garon had downed this beautiful whitetail by 6:40am. It is normal practice, that along with his Browning 7mm-.08 bolt action,
he carries his video and 35mm cameras as well. You will find him high in a metal stand glassing and videoing the entire first day,
just casually observing all of the deer in the area. Well on this particular morning and during this particular season, it was obvious
the rut was in full bloom, there was not one buck slowly going about his business but instead all were in love, not concerned about
anything else but chasing their lady, bound and determined to mate. And as Garon stood with binoculars in hand, he realized
immediately as this trophy was speeding past him that he should have had his gun in hand. He had just enough time to use his grunt
call and…..the buck running into trees… stopped, came out just enough for Garon to see his head and neck, and with no more time
to waste, Garon got one shot off in his neck and he was down. This entire scene, with Garon seeing him, grunting and shooting,
was probably less than 30 seconds! What a reaction! He is beautifully symmetrical and heavy and…. waiting to be scored. Check back for results when they are in!!!! Good job Garon!
